[WHRD Alert] MEXICO / Searching woman defender María de los Ángeles Valenzuela is disappeared after armed men deprived her of her liberty in Mazatlán, Sinaloa

The National Network of Women Human Rights Defenders in Mexico and IM-Defensoras express our grave concern about the disappearance of María de los Ángeles Valenzuela, member of the collective Corazones Unidos por una Misma Causa, AC.

María de los Ángeles was deprived of her liberty by armed men in the Salvador Allende neighborhood. As of the issuing of this alert, there is no official information about her whereabouts.

María is a courageous woman who has dedicated her life to searching for disappeared persons and defending human rights. Her work cannot be ignored or rendered invisible.

We demand that the authorities:

  • Guarantee her right to be found immediately and alive.

  • Include her work as a woman human rights defender and searcher in the lines of investigation.

  • Provide comprehensive protection to her family and the other members of her collective.

We call on the public to remain alert and offer any information that may contribute to finding her. Searching for her is urgent. Her life matters.
