THE FACTS – On Thursday, December 12, Neyma Hernández, who suffers from several illnesses including hyperthyroidism and heart trouble, fainted and underwent a deterioration of her health.

Since then she has been subjected to the following violations of her human rights, among others: She was denied appropriate medical care, which was finally granted because of the pressure exerted by her comrade political prisoners, who staged a hunger strike on her behalf; she has not received the medicine she needs; and she has been the víctim of psychological torture and cruel and degrading treatment, such as being chained in the hospital, deprived of family visits, and forced to strip naked for the ostensible purpose of having her whole body photographed in the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

We of IM-Defensoras denounce these acts and call on the international community to demand that the Nicaraguan government provide specialized attention to Neyma Hernández and grant her immediate freedom in order to guarantee her integrity and her life.
