UN Rapporteur receives information on situation of women human rights defenders in Mexico

Last Tuesday, April 3, during the visit to Mexico of Michel Forst, UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders, a meeting was hosted by the Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center (ProDh) for the Rapporteur to sit down with organizations and individuals working in defense of human rights. A specific space was opened up on the situation of women defenders, in which representatives and members of IM-Defensoras and the National Network of Women Human Rights Defenders in Mexico participated.

That same morning, representatives of IM-Defensoras and the National Network of Women Human Rights Defenders in Mexico accompanied the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders at a session of Mexico’s Congress for the presentation of the "Faces of Dignity" report, which visibilizes the work of rights defenders in Mexico. Claudia Zenteno and Bettina Cruz Velázquez, members of the network, spoke about the particular situation of retaliation faced by defenders due to their work.
