The Feminist Collective for Local Development and Citizen Association for the Decriminalization of Therapeutic Abortion, Ethics and Eugenics are two Salvadoran organizations with a proven track record that defender the #DDHH of women.
Since 2014 they have played an important role as advocates and drivers of the Liberty for the 17 Campaign, which calls for clemency for the 17 imprisoned Salvadoran women who have had abortions due to obstetric complications that put their lives and health in serious risk – some of these women are facing prison sentences of up to 40 years.
For several weeks now blogs and print media have spread defamatory expressions against the Feminist Collective for Local Development and Citizen Association for the Decriminalization of Therapeutic Abortion, Ethics and Eugenics. They have also exposed private documents and names, inciting the exacerbation of violence against the organization and its employees labeling them "terrorists" and "abortionists".
These attacks aim to discredit the work and commitment of WHRDs dedicated to the protection of human rights of poor women in El Salvador – women who face disproportionate penalties for related reproductive health or other obstetric problems due to the absolute criminalization of abortion in the country.
On behalf of members of the IM-Defensoras, we demand that the Salvadoran State guarantee and ensure the security and protection of #DDHH members of the Feminist Collective for Local Development and Citizen Association for the Decriminalization of Therapeutic Abortion, Ethics and Eugenics.
