THE FACTS – Last February 15th, in broad daylight, members of the Single Police Command of the federal government violently broke into the home of human rights defender Francisco Paredes Lachino in Haciendas del Sol de Tarimbaro in the state of Michoacan.

The police agents forced the locks, killed family pets and stole equipment for storing tapes from the security cameras granted by the Federal Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists. In 2015, an armed commando had broken into the same residence with the acquiescence and participation of members of the former Ministry of Public Security.

We of IM-Defensoras and the National Network for Women Human Rights Defenders in Mexico (RNDDHM) vigorously condemn the attacks against the Paredes Lachino family and demand an end to the pattern of violence employed against its members, two of which are defenders Janahuy and Cristina Paredes Lachino of the RNDDHM. We further demand punishment for both the perpetrators and masterminds of these attacks.

In the same vein, we demand that the defenders be granted guarantees for security conditions that will allow them to continue their invaluable work in the defense of human rights in Michoacan.
