NEWS / NETWORKS OF WOMEN HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS FROM DIFFERENT REGIONS OF THE PLANET GO TO UN HUMAN RIGHTS TO SHARE EXPERIENCES ABOUT PROTECTION WITH A GENDER PERSPECTIVE

Between 17 and 19 May 2017, a delegation composed of networks of women human rights defenders (WHRD) from various regions of the world will be in Geneva, Switzerland, to meet with the Working Group on Discrimination against Women and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human rights defenders, as well as other Special Procedures and international organizations, with the aim of:

  • Highlight the main challenges that WHRD face in combatting discrimination in different regions of the world.
  • Exchange experiences and lessons learned with respect to safety and wellbeing taking into consideration different approaches and strategies by WHRDs.
  • Formulate recommendations to States and United Nations entities to promote an environment of protection and equality for the participation of women.

The different regions will be represented by:

MESOAMERICA: IM-Defensoras
MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA: WHRD-Mena Coalition
SOUTH OF AFRICA: JASS Southern Africa
