This November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, marks the beginning of the Campaign for 16 Days of Activism to End Violence against Women 2016, in which women will collectively visibilize, denounce and reflect on the many forums of violence that we face, regardless of condition, race, class, sexual orientation and ideology in all spheres of our lives.
For women human rights defenders, November 29th, the International Day of Women Defenders, and December 10th, International Human Rights Day, which ends the 16 Days Campaign, are also important dates for publicizing our basic work as women human rights defenders and the conditions and specific risks that we, as women, face.
In the final days of November, 2016, we will engage in the following activities:
- November 24th. We will activate our new web page , a useful reference instrument on women human rights defenders in Mesoamerica. We invite you to explore it, leave comments, publicize, and visit it.
- November 25th. Dissemination of a video on women who defend the right to a life free of violence, an IM-Defensoras and Front Line Defenders co-production.
- November 28th. Beginning of the Virtual Dialogue: “Self-Care, a political strategy in defense of human rights” convened by IM-Defensoras and DEFENRED, which will end on December 12th. We invite you to participate and contribute to the reflections on this central issue for the safety and well-being of women defenders in the context of a space for collective construction.
- November 29th. Statement on the International Day of Women Human Rights Defenders and the dissemination of the IM-Defensoras Campaign on the UN Resolution on the Protection of Women Defenders and the Rights of Women: The Spanish language version of the "UN General Assembly Resolution on the Protection of Women Human Rights Defenders and Persons Defending Women’s Rights” published by IM-Defensoras and UN Women.
Moreover, during the 16 Days Campaign, we will be distributing a series of infographs in our social networks on the violence and risks faced by women defenders in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua.
