On 28 November, a new electoral process will take place in Honduras, in a context of territorial dispossession, terror, and repression imposed by the current narco-dictatorship. This situation is intensifying violence against women defenders and their communities.
Honduras is a mirror of the policies and interests being pushed throughout the world, but it is also an example of resisting, defending life, and building the just world that we all need to survive as humanity.
This is why all the networks, articulations, and organizations that are part of IM-Defensoras call on you to support our Honduran sisters during the electoral process and beyond, through the following actions:
- Amplify and support the reports and alerts that women defenders and communities in struggle may issue before, during, and after Election Day. In light of possible acts of violence and repression by the State aiming to silence the protests, our sister defenders will be accompanying the victims and their families, as well as documenting and denouncing any human rights violations committed. You can follow them at: Twitter @RedDefensoras and Facebook facebook.com/reddedefensoras
- Record an audio message to send support and strength to our sister defenders, recognize their struggles and the contributions of communities in struggle to the peoples of the world and send it to eloina.narvaez@im-defensoras.org or post on social media tagging @RedDefensoras and @IM_Defensoras with the hashtag #SolidaridadFeministaconHonduras
- Contact your country’s Foreign Ministry as well as international organizations urging them to remain vigilant and to condemn the violence and repression that may occur in Honduras in the electoral and post-electoral context, and to pay special attention to the impact of this context on women and women human rights defenders.
